This week, our class went to the 878 experience in the town of Winchester. This was a historic experience that implemented AR elements into the history to make the artefacts more interactive for the users and shed a new light on what lift might have been like during the viking raid of Winchester in 878AD.
Overall, I was disappointed in the experience as I was expecting an AR or VR element to the experience and being able to walk around the world as someone who lived back then. However, there were a few actors playing roles of people who lived at that time, videos explaining how it would've been and the artefacts on display, and a lot of reading about different lifestyle techniques like medical that would've been used. I also thought that the whole experience was very accessible to those who might have disabilities with eyesight as the room was very poorly lit, the text was quite small on the plaques and there was no option for a guided tour around the room.
One aspect I did like was how it was based on the game Assassins Creed: Valhalla. As a player of this game it was interesting to see how accurate it was to the time, how the NPC live and interact within the game and what influenced the exhibition.
